The Blackthorn is found throughout Ireland and the British Isles, and it has been prized for centuries as a material for premium walking sticks. The most well-known incarnation of the classic Blackthorn stick was the Irish Shillelagh a tool that was so fearsome in trained hands that the English outlawed it! To circumvent this law, the Irish modified the Shillelagh into the classic walking stick that we are familiar with today. Cold Steel's modern interpretation of this beautiful and historically significant walking stick is made from high-impact polypropylene. It's incredibly durable and is easy to clean with a little soap and water.

So in Dec 2019 I had to go for back surgery. It was a success. During recovery though, my back was weak for over a month. I needed a walking stick. Just thinking of those collapsible, aluminum walking sticks sold in orthopaedic supplies stores, however, made me cringe.
So I got this. Boy, was it cool. When I went out for walks, everyone stared at it in awe.
It was fun to wield around the house, and took away the boredom of recuperating from my surgery.
There were only two drawbacks. The base of the stick did not bite the ground/floor well and a few time, it slipped and that gave my back jolts of pain. I fixed that by bringing it to a nearby cobbler, who nailed a tough piece of shoe sole to the base (pic). The second drawback is the weight. Although the stick is tough, the ensuing weight made it hard to use for long periods unless you have strong hands.
