Vosteed A2612 Porcupine 14C28N

The Porcupine Thumb Stud Version is the evolution of a proven design, refined through real-world feedback from countless shows and meetups. While the original earned its reputation for strength, utility, and precision, users wanted a cleaner, safer deployment—leading to this refined version with a smoother, faster, and more intuitive opening experience. Its Top Liner Lock delivers secure, one-handed operation, supported by a nearly hidden lock bar, stainless-steel reinforcement, and a solid steel backspacer for dependable rigidity. The 2.99" 14C28N blade pairs a generous belly for effortless slicing with a precise point for detailed tasks, making it a reliable tool for both everyday carry and outdoor use.

A 1.22" ergonomic handle—offered in G10 or Micarta—provides stable, balanced control, enhanced by a forward choil, dedicated handle choil, and structural barrel lanyard tube. Thoughtful refinements, such as strategic jimping, a stabilizing pin, titanium-coated T8 hardware, internally milled liners, a glove-friendly thumb stud, and a durable recessed button, all come together to create a knife that feels intuitive, secure, and ready for anything.

I just picked up the Vosteed Porcupine (Thumb Stud Version) in Destroyer Grey from Thomas Tools—and honestly, this one hits differently.

First off, this is my 4th purchase from them and at this point, it’s not even a coincidence anymore. Every time I order, everything just arrives exactly how you’d hope it would—well packed, legit, and zero nonsense. It’s the kind of consistency that quietly builds trust, and that’s rare enough these days to be worth mentioning.

Now about the knife itself…

I already thought the original Porcupine with the thumb hole was near perfect. The design, the ergonomics, the way it handled—it didn’t really feel like it needed fixing. But then this thumb stud version came out… and yeah, I knew immediately this was going to be one of those “I don’t need it, but I’m definitely getting it” moments. A bad life choice? Probably. One that I’m still fully out of control with? Absolutely.

But here’s the thing—it actually improves the experience.

The thumb studs make deployment smoother and more controlled, especially if you’re not in the mood to think about finger placement. It feels more intuitive and safer without losing that signature Porcupine character. The Top Liner Lock is solid and keeps your fingers clear of the blade path, which adds confidence during use.

Blade-wise, the 14C28N steel is exactly what you want for EDC—great edge retention, corrosion resistance, and easy to maintain. The drop point with that big belly is surprisingly versatile. Food prep, packages, cardboard—it just slices clean without feeling overbuilt. And the tip is sharp and precise enough for detailed work.

Ergonomics are another highlight. The handle fills the hand nicely without feeling bulky, and the forward choil gives you options when you need more control. The jimping is well-placed, and overall grip feels secure whether you’re doing light tasks or something a bit more demanding.

The Destroyer Grey finish ties it all together—it’s subtle, tactical, and just looks right without trying too hard. The little details like the blue thumb studs and pivot collar add just enough contrast to keep it interesting.

Final thoughts:
This isn’t just a cosmetic update—it’s a refinement that actually listens to user feedback and improves usability. If you liked the original Porcupine, this version feels like the natural evolution. If you’re new to it, you’re getting a very well-thought-out EDC right out of the gate.

And yeah… I regret nothing. Probably.

Another beautifully designed and crafted EDC from Vosteed. From the well thought of extra jimping to the top liner lock ( Vosteed's compression lock), the coated blade becomes an extension of your hand so naturally. Choke up on the finger choil and you have a tool that deserves 2 thumbs up!
